The Top Position tournament is decided in a best of five match with 10 hours thinking time per person and no komi except when the match would go all the way. Then the fifth game would be played with 4.5 komi (see the 3rd edition). The challenger comes from a league tournament where the games were also played without komi. The Top Position tournament ran for six times and then was replaced by the Meijin and Judan titles.
